Monkey See, Monkey Do!

My god-daughter, Zylice, is turning 9 on November 30th.  This year her mother said that she was having a "small" party. Well her "small" party venue is Monkey Joe's.  When I asked what she wanted to do with her invitations, her only specification was that she wanted them to be pink, black, and white.  She didn't have a specific theme this year so I thought I would play off the place where she was having the party, Monkey Joe's.

I needed to get these done quick so she could pass them out ASAP.  I decided to go with a simple square invitation.  I added dimension with the 9 and the monkey by popping them off the page.  And off, a monkey isn't black and pink, but I thought with would bring a little creativity if I kept the color scheme as Zylice requested.  Gotta love a girlie girl!

All in all, I think the invitations turned out very cute.

Happy Halloween, 50's Style!

So Alaya isn't at the age to really decide what she wants to be for Halloween (or I don't let her decide yet).  This year I decided on the 50's poodle skirt.  Even though I searched the Internet for the perfect costume, I had the bright idea for my mother to make it. LET'S GO TO THE HOP!

And what's more fitting than to take a few picture at 50's inspired restaurant, Andy's.

I could overload this post with pictures!  I must admit my mother did a really great job making Alaya's costume.  Alaya really enjoyed it!

Happy Halloween!

Candy Corn Kisses, Halloween Wishes!

Today, Alaya's daycare is celebrating their version of Halloween called Hallelujah Day!  Because it's a Christian Daycare, the kids get to dress up as Biblical characters or animals (A little later you will see that I deviated a little from the costume suggestion).  Also the kids get to trick or treat between the classrooms.  So I thought it would be cute to make these candy corn treat boxes for the kids; all 90 of them!

Here's a close up to see them in little more detail:

There were a lot of new techniques I used and learned while making these.  And they were the perfect size for the Halloween Fruit Snacks I put in them.

Happy Halloween!

Christmas Goodie Bags!

With Christmas drawing near, I wanted to show some cute and simple goodie bags I made for Alaya's daycare class last year.  I simply bought red and green lunch bags from a local party store and embellished them with Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.

Here's a close of up Rudolph:

Now how cute is that!  More Christmas crafts to come in upcoming weeks.

Graduates!

In another month, December graduates will be sending out their graduation announcements.  Some may have already ordered their announcements by now.  My sister-in-law graduated from UNC-G this past May and I had the honor of making her announcements.  She wanted something simple and this is what I came up with:

Congratulations to the upcoming graduates!

Our Little Ladybug!

If you read my first blog you know that after the birth of my sweet baby girl Alaya, my interest in paper crafting magnified.  Alaya's 1st birthday was my first big event for her.  The invitations set the tone and read:

She's cute and sweet and so much fun.
Our Little Lady is turning 1!

Here is the ladybug invitation closed all 25 of them:

And a quick picture of the ladybug favor bags as I was making them:

And the special ladybug bug cake/cupcakes made by Anshalica of Destiny's Delights http://www.destinysdelightscakes.com/

And of course, I can't leave with showing you some pictures of our ladybug Alaya.  The pictures were taken by Christy of betrueimagedesign.com

Aww, she has grown so much.  Where has the time gone!

Aloha!

One of this summer's creations were Luau birthday invitations for a special 2 year old named Riley.  Riley's mommy was open to anything as far as the invitations.  All she requested was girly colors.  The invitations read:

Palm trees and sandy beaches
might be far away;
So we're bringing the tropics to us
to celebrate Riley's 2nd Luau Birthday!

Here's a close up of the Hula Girl:

Just looking at these invites makes me wish that I was in Hawaii right now!

Butterfly Onesie!

I was asked to make some baby shower invitations.  My first question was what was the theme?  The answer was butterflies.  My next question was what were the colors?  The answer was pastels.  So after little thought, I decided to make a onesie shaped invitation in glittery lavender cardstock and added a glittery yellow butterfly.

Here is is a side view of the invitation:

Look at the intricate cuts of the butterfly.  It adds so much dimension:

Boss's Day Banner!

Boss's Day, also known as National Boss Day or Bosses Day, is a time for many workers to appreciate their employers.  It's annually observed in the United States on October 16 or the nearest working day.  So this year, Boss's Day will be Monday, October 17, 2011

I was asked if I would make a banner for Boss's Day.  This was my absolute first time making a banner.  My findings was it was much easier than than I expected.  I was very pleased on how it turned out!

She's Fit! She's Fabulous! She's Fifty!

A neighbor was turning 50 and I was invited to her surprise birthday party.  The invitation read:  She's Fit!  She's Fabulous!  She's Fifty!  Inspired by those words, I made a card and coordinating gift bag.

This would make any 50 year old feel good!

La-la-la-la! It's Elmo's World!

In August, my little cousin was turning 1.  His party theme was Elmo and his mommy asked me to help her out with party favors.  My initial thought was it's August and school will be starting in a few weeks.  I then decided on Elmo back to school notebooks.  So I went Target's back to school section and got 25 red 1 subject notebooks and fancied them up Elmo style:

The end result was usable cute and inexpensive party favors.

Aurora's Safari 1st Birthday!

Well, I had the honor to make Little Miss Aurora's 1st birthday invitations.  Her mommy tossed around many theme ideas for the party and she finally decided on a safari theme birthday.  Once she decided, our search began for the perfect invitations.  Passport invitations won the battle.

Here's the inside of the Passport invitations.

And just for fun I have to show a picture of Alaya and the birthday girl, Aurora.  Look up Aurora; say cheese!

Happy Birthday Aurora!  Wishing you many, many more!

A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words!

So today I took a photography workshop to learn more about photography.  I was excited when I found out Christy Johnson of Be True Image Design decided to start these classes.  She takes such great pictures so I knew she would be the perfect person for me to learn from.

These classes are designed for moms who want to learn to take better photos of their children.  Well that's me!  Not only do I want to take better pictures of Alaya, I also want to take better pictures of the crafts I make as well as the events I plan.  As they say, "a picture is worth a thousand word".

Be sure to check Christy of Be True Image Design out at www.betrueimagedesign.com.

The Whitmore-Scott Wedding

I was honored when a dear friend asked me to make invitations for their upcoming wedding.  I was excited they asked me, but a little scared because I felt like wedding invitations were outside my comfort zone.  Needless to say, I only had a couple of weeks to get them done.  The first week was spent asking the bride questions to get a feel for the wedding and next week was getting them done.

Their wedding color was called Passion.  In lamest terms, pink and purple.  So here I was in the craft stores with a swatch trying to find cardstock and ribbon to match their colors.  Finally, I found something that would work!

And just because, a picture of the bridal party.  Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Scott.

An All Star Baby Shower!

So my latest project was 25 baby shower invitations.  The theme of the baby shower was going to be sports themed which is also the theme of the nursery.  The host of the shower sent me a picture of the bedding.  The crib bedding was the inspiration for the invitations.

Here's a close up of the crib bedding:

As you see the colors are dark tones of brown, burgundy, baby blue and cream.  For the invitations I went with a more vibrant red, a navy blue and white:

The invitation read:
It's An All Star Baby Shower!
A little All Star is on the way!  So, let's help
Mommy and Daddy
prepare for the arrival day!

I am pretty excited how these turned out!  The layers of the balls were intricate details, but they add alot of character to these invites.

Congratulations to the Mommy and Daddy To Be!

Introducing Eventfully Yours!

My name is Shashonda.  I am a mother to a 2 year old daughter and a wife to a loving husband. By day, I am a chemist, but my passion for crafting and event planning was magnified after the birth my daughter.   My wonderful husband saw tremendous potential in me and encouraged me to act on it. Hence, the birth of Eventfully Yours.

I know your initial thought is that chemistry and event planning are at opposite ends of the spectrum.  However, you will be amazed with the commonalities.  These include detail oriented, inventive, and quality work.
·         Detail oriented.
A lot of my work as a chemist involves chemical reactions.  Some that are not followed correctly can lead to some dangerous results.  So it is important to pay attention to detail.  This is also true as an event planner.  Attention to detail is what sets your events apart from others.
·         Inventive.
Chemistry requires good background knowledge of the subject and a little inventive thinking. My work will often lead to unique and untested ideas, the creation and success of which can give a chemist a reputable name. Some of the best chemists are the ones who do not stick exactly to the text book and try out some experiments of their own.  As an event planner, innovative ideas and creativity is needed to make sure every event is unique and no two events are alike.
·         Quality Work.
As a chemist in the pharmaceutical industry, I have to make sure that the drugs I test meet certain specifications to make sure it is safe for use by the consumers.  Event planners alike have to provide quality work to have continued success.
Who is Eventfully Yours?  Eventfully Yours is an event planning services that can do as much or as little as you need.  We can plan your event from start to finish or we can just simply style your event.  Event styling is where we craft eventful details which can range from handcrafted invitations to banners to centerpieces.  We specialize in children’s parties, however, our creative décor and eventful details will enhance the look of any event.
